How to Make your Dentures Last

Posted on 7/10/2023 by Dr. Castellon
How to Make your Dentures LastOnce you receive your dentures, you need to take the necessary steps to keep them in good shape. If you don't take care of these prostheses, they will not endure for long. Here, we provide you will some helpful tips to help preserve your dentures and keep them working for as long as possible.

Clean Dentures Carefully

Keeping dentures clean is important as it helps preserve their condition and improve your oral health. Bacteria can be trapped in dentures, often leading to an infection. Make sure you rinse your oral appliances on regular basis, particularly after eating. Also, rinse the mouth. When cleaning your dentures, don't plop them down on that hard counter. Set a soft towel where you will place them during the time you are cleaning them. This will help prevent an unexpected chip or crack that may arise when the denture strikes a hard surface. Use special cleaning solutions instead of the normal toothpaste, which is abrasive.

Avoid Chewing on Hard Objects

Chewing on a pencil or eating ice can damage your dentures. Also, putting other hard objects within the mouth is not wise. Doing away with these objects helps ensure the appliances last longer.

Soak Them at Night

Instead of wearing dentures at night, you may want to remove them and place them in a solution. This way, you ensure that they do not get too dry or start cracking. It also helps make them comfortable to wear. And when not using them, you can store them in a special case so that they are not knocked on the ground or stepped on. If you are taking them out to allow the gums to rest or if you are not soaking them at night, ensure they are in a case.
