It is always important to practice good oral hygiene. We were told to brush twice a day and floss once a day. So, it is just as important to keep your dentures clean. Bad breath can be caused from a few different things and if you're not sure where it's coming from ask your dentist to help you pinpoint the problem.

Things such as cavities or bacteria buildup on your teeth. It can be caused from acid reflux or sinus drainage. Bad breath can also be caused by your dentures.

What Make Dentures Stinky?

Dentures are just like real teeth in that they collect tartar and plaques from the foods we eat and beverages we drink. It's important that you remember to clean them just like they were real teeth.

A good habit to prevent your dentures from getting stinky is to soak them, brush them and rinse them. If you're going to put something into your mouth it should be clean and fresh. Brushing them is important to get any food particles or any buildup off of them, and then rinsing them.

While you eat, it is possible for food to get in between your dentures and your mouth. A good way to prevent this is to use a denture adhesive. The adhesive will create a nice seal and will help block food from getting in there. Food that sits in your mouth too long can also cause bad breath. If you prefer not to use an adhesive, try to make sure you rinse your dentures after you eat.

As long as you practice good oral hygiene you shouldn't have a problem with stinky dentures. Continue regular office visits. Even though you clean your dentures and brush your tongue and rinse your mouth, it is still important to make sure nothing else is going on.

Dentures should fit snug and without discomfort. Stopping in once in a while to see how everything is going is not a bad idea. If you're experiencing some bad breath and can't quite figure it out just give your dentist office a call and schedule a visit.
