 Most people who get dentures, end up with denture sores during the adjustment period. Sometimes those sores also persist for a while after adjusting to your dentures, as your gums change.
If you find yourself struggling with denture sores a lot, there are a few things you can do to help. By taking proper care of your dentures and your gums, this can help your mouth adjust better to having dentures in them. Caring for Your Mouth Once You Get DenturesWhen you first get dentures, your mouth is going to have to adjust. This adjustment is easy for some, but painful for others. By wearing your dentures for the first few days, you can make the adjustment process faster, but that may lead to sores on your gums. This needs to be treated with the removal of the dentures and rinsing the mouth with salt water a few times per day.You also need to make sure that you soak and clean the dentures nightly so that you only put them into your mouth soft and clean. Dirty dentures are more prone to damaging your gums, leading to soreness and trouble eating. Make sure when you clean your dentures, you also clean your mouth. Brush what natural teeth you have, and make sure to brush your gums gently as well. This helps keep your gums from getting sore, and prevents you from struggling with the pain that can come with them. If you regularly get denture sores, it may be time to have your dentures relined or refitted. As you wear your dentures, they wear down your gums and jaw.
