Signs Your Dentures Are Not Fitting As Tightly As They Should

Dentures Dallas Prosthodontics TX 75254Getting new dentures is going to be a learning process. For this you will need to be a little bit patient, but also communicate any concerns you have with us. It is going to take some time for a few reasons.

In the beginning your gums are going to be swollen from teeth being pulled, and from wearing your new dentures.

Adjustments will most likely need to be made in the office as the swelling goes down to make sure they are snug. You will need to teach your cheek muscles and tongue how to hold them in your mouth.

You will have to learn how to eat and even talk with them. This is something everyone goes through, so do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed.

We have all kinds of suggestions to help you through this process. Every person is unique in that we all have a different smile, so this can be a little bit of trial and error. Here are some things to help us and you out on figuring out if your dentures are fitting the way they should be.

Do Your Dentures Fit Properly?

The last thing you want is to get frustrated with not being able to eat the things you want, or worse have your teeth fall out while you are out to dinner with loved ones.

If you notice that your dentures are slipping this may be a sign they do not fit properly anymore. You may notice food particles are getting inside your dentures.

A definite sign would be if you are getting sores or pain when you wear them. As we age our jaw will change. You may need adjustments or even replacement dentures to go with these changes.

This is not uncommon. Dentures are really not designed to last forever. They will wear down with time too. Your dentures should fit snug and without pain or discomfort.

Whatever the concern may be, it is important that you follow up with us. We would encourage you to make an appointment, so we can examine how they are fitting, and go over suggestions or options with you.

It can be something as simple as recommending a denture adhesive, making some small adjustments, or replacing your dentures with a new set.

We want to make sure that we prevent any pain or infection, and get you back at it with the right fitting dentures. We want to make sure you're enjoying your day without thinking about your dentures.

It is important to come in for regular six-month checkups, even with dentures, so we can keep an eye on everything. Give us a call and schedule an appointment. Hope to hear from you soon.
