Ways of Increasing the Longevity of Dental Veneers

Posted on 4/30/2019 by Dr. Castellon
Ways of Increasing the Longevity of Dental VeneersDental veneers are a fantastic way to improve the overall appearance of your smile and correct any imperfections such as chips, cracks or uneven size and shape. Admittedly, it can be quite an investment, and we know it is an investment you will want to protect.

Today we will take some time to look at just a few of the ways that you can increase the longevity of your dental veneers and ensure that your smile will be beautiful for years to come.

New Smile
Congratulations on receiving your gorgeous new smile! Now that you are back at home, there are several things you can do to make your transition to a beautiful smile not only easier but ensure that it will last for years to come.

For the first few days after your procedure is completed, avoid any hard or difficult to chew foods such as steak, sticky foods, nuts, ice or anything that requires a hard bite. This will give your veneers time to securely bond to your natural teeth and also let you adjust to the feel of your new bite. Remember, we repaired and added shape, so biting may feel a little different at first.

After the first week, you are ready to begin the long-term care of your veneers. Just as your natural teeth can be stained and damaged, so can the veneers. Avoid or eliminate such things as coffee, tea, soft drinks, tobacco products and alcohol as all of these can discolor your new smile. Avoid habits such as nail biting or using your teeth as a tool; tearing open packages or holding items in your teeth.

Daily brushing and flossing should still be a part of your oral health. And be sure to call our office and schedule your cleanings regularly. Welcome to your new smile! It looks fantastic on you!
