Veneers Can Alter the Look of Your Smile in No Time
Posted on 1/25/2021 by Dr. Castellon
Are you self-conscious about your smile? If you have gaps in your smile, chipped or cracked teeth, crooked teeth, or teeth that do not match in size or color, veneers can help. Veneers have become one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures in recent years due to their durability and highly natural appearance. Plus, the process for getting veneers typically only requires two visits to our office.
How Do Veneers Work?
Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that are bonded in place over your natural teeth. They are custom-made for your mouth and match the shade of your natural teeth. Unlike with dental implants, getting veneers does not involve surgery or extensive healing time. The process for getting veneers is relatively quick and simple: first, we need to prepare your teeth by shaving down some of the enamel on the teeth that are going to be covered by the veneers. This will help the veneers adhere to the surfaces of your teeth better. Next, we take impressions of your teeth that allow us to custom-make your veneers. The impressions are sent to a lab and your new veneers will be ready after one to two weeks. At that point, you will return to our office so we can adhere them to your teeth – and you walk away with your brand new smile.
Do Veneers Require Special Maintenance?
Your veneers should last fifteen years or more if you care for them properly. You can mostly care for veneers the same as your natural teeth, meaning that you should brush for two minutes twice a day, floss once a day, and do not skip your routine dental checkups. Make sure you use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a non-abrasive toothpaste, and avoid habits like biting your nails, grinding your teeth, and chewing on ice, as these can damage your veneers.
