FAQs
What are dental implants and how do they work?
Dental implants are permanent tooth replacement solutions that consist of a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone, an abutment, and a customized crown. Over time, the implant fuses with your bone to provide a stable foundation for chewing and speaking.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most adults who have lost one or more teeth and have sufficient jawbone are good candidates for dental implants. During your consultation at Dallas Prosthodontics, our dental team will evaluate your oral health, bone levels, and medical history to determine if implants are right for you.
How long does the dental implant process take?
The dental implant process typically takes several months from start to finish. After placing the implant post, a healing period of a few months allows the implant to integrate with the jawbone. Once healed, the abutment and custom crown are added to complete the restoration.
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during and after implant surgery. Local anesthesia and sedation options are available to keep you comfortable, and any post-operative discomfort can usually be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relievers.
How do I care for my dental implants long term?
Caring for dental implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend routine dental exams and cleanings at Dallas Prosthodontics. Good oral hygiene helps protect your implants and ensure lasting success.
