What Is A Prosthodontist
At Dallas Prosthodontics one of the most common questions we receive is, “What is a prosthodontist?” It is entirely understandable, as it is one of the lesser known specialties of dentistry. However, it is a differentiation that is very important to understand. Dr. Buskin is a Board Certified Prosthodontists and both Drs. Castellon and Buskin have many years of experience with complex dental restoration and tooth replacement procedures. They will take excellent care of you, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have on what they do, how they do it, or why they do it. Give us a call and set up an appointment or consultation today!
What is a Prosthodontist?
Most of our patients understand that there are sub-specialties to dentistry. You see a lot of general and family dentists, but there are those who go that extra step to learn something specific. A prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed dental school plus three additional years of advanced training and education in an ADA-accredited prosthodontic graduate program. A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, TMJ / TMD, and additional restorative procedures.
What Does a Prosthodontist Do?
Some of the standard procedures we provide include crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures (complete dentures and partial dentures), inlays and onlays, and more. These restorative procedures allow us to properly address existing issues with your teeth. While we are capable of a wide variety of treatments, we receive specialized treatment education in certain specific areas. For example, we undergo extensive education in dental implants, allowing us to do more complex diagnosis and treatment protocols. We also have additional education in TMJ (temporomandibular joint) surgeries and treatment options.
In addition, prosthodontists are more adept at treating issues such as sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. Since we specialize in all aspects of restorative procedures, we can treat traumatic injuries at their source when problems arise from the mouth or jaw, such as when a tooth has been knocked out. No matter what needs treatment, prosthodontists can rehabilitate your mouth and get you back and fully functioning again.
Drs. Castellon and Buskin want nothing more than to have you back on your feet, happy, healthy, and confident again.
